Best fabrics to keep you cool all summer!

Are you feeling HOT, HOT, HOT?!? 🥵☀️🥵

With the temperature easily topping 40 degrees every day, it’s time to chat about the best fabrics for keeping cool in the summer (ok, ok, so “keeping cool” is a bit of a stretch for the Dubai summer weather 😆)…

So what should we be wearing?! Here’s a quick roundup of the best fabrics to get you through the summer (and can someone please turn off this oven?!? Please and thank you!).

Cotton - A natural choice, this fabric is lightweight, breathable and soft and readily available at any price point. One of the most suitable fabrics for summer as it absorbs moisture and dries quickly!

Linen - This fabric is made from the flax plant and is especially light and breathable. It can also absorb moisture up to 20% of its’ weight, effectively wicking away sweat from the skin. The only downside of linen is that it wrinkles easily, so less suitable for corporate wear and formal attire.

Rayon - Also known as Viscose, this partly synthetic fibre is made from wood pulp. It has a great moisture wicking ability to keep the skin cool and dry in the hot weather, and feels soft and silky to the touch. Works well in dresses and blouses due to its’ flowing and draping nature.

Silk - This luxurious and expensive natural fibre is lightweight and deals well with moisture; however it is delicate and requires special care when washing or dry cleaning.

Chambray - A lightweight cotton material that looks similar to denim, yet feels soft and silky and is a lot more breathable. It is a perfect choice for summer dresses and blouses.

Ramie - This fabric is exceptionally strong (twice as durable as cotton!) and extremely light and breathable. Made from the ramie plant, this fabric has been around for thousands of years and was used for wrapping mummies in Ancient Egypt. The only downside? It wrinkles as easily as linen does!
